Book Printing & Fulfilment

Print-on-demand suits most authors. Offset suits authors with a reason to hold inventory. Choosing wrongly either ties up your money or costs you margin on every copy.

The approach

The question is not which is better. It is how many copies you can actually sell.

Print-on-demand means no inventory, no upfront cost, and a higher cost per copy. Offset printing means a real investment and a garage full of books, but a unit cost low enough to make bulk sales and bookstore margins work.

Below roughly 250 copies, print-on-demand almost always wins. Above it, offset starts to pay โ€” and if you are speaking at events or selling to corporate buyers, it pays considerably.

What is included

  • Honest print-on-demand versus offset cost modelling
  • Paper stock, weight and finish selection with physical samples
  • A free physical proof before any run is authorised
  • Special finishes: foil, emboss, spot gloss, deckle edge
  • Hardcover with dust jacket, or case-laminate binding
  • Direct fulfilment to events, bulk buyers or your door
  • Reprint management as stock runs down

Questions

The things
authors ask first.

If your question is not here, ask it on the consultation call — we would rather answer it before you commit than after.

Under about 250 copies, print-on-demand. Over it, offset gets cheaper per unit โ€” meaningfully so at 1,000+. We will run both numbers against your actual sales expectation rather than guessing.

Yes, both case-laminate and cloth-bound with a dust jacket. Hardcover suits gift editions, memoirs and corporate buyers.

Print-on-demand dispatches within about 48 hours of order. An offset run is typically three to five weeks from proof approval, plus shipping.

We can arrange warehousing and fulfilment, or ship the full run to you. Most authors doing events prefer to hold their own stock.

Foil stamping, embossing, spot gloss and deckle edges are all available on offset runs. They are not possible on print-on-demand, which is one reason authors choose offset.
