Self & Amazon Publishing

Publishing a book is mostly paperwork and metadata, and both are easy to get wrong in ways that quietly cost you readers for years.

The approach

Your categories and keywords decide who ever sees the book. Most authors guess at them.

Amazon shows your book to people browsing specific categories and searching specific phrases. Choose categories that are too broad and you are invisible; choose well and a modest sales figure can make you a category bestseller. This is research, not intuition.

We also register everything in your name. Some services put their own ISBN on your book, which quietly makes them the publisher of record. We do not do that.

What is included

Questions

The things
authors ask first.

If your question is not here, ask it on the consultation call — we would rather answer it before you commit than after.

You are. ISBNs are registered to you or to your own imprint, and every retail account is in your name with you holding the logins. If you leave us, nothing about the book changes.

On Amazon KDP, roughly 70% of the list price for ebooks priced between $2.99 and $9.99, and around 60% minus print cost for paperbacks. We take none of it.

It depends. Exclusivity gets you Kindle Unlimited page reads but blocks every other retailer. For most non-fiction we recommend going wide; for genre fiction, Select often earns more. We will model both for your book.

Not required, but it looks more professional on the copyright page and costs nothing to set up. We will register it with you.

IngramSpark makes your book orderable by any bookstore, which is different from stocked on shelves. Physical shelf placement is a bookstore-by-bookstore conversation we can advise on but not guarantee.
